When he reported for duty on his first day, the senior day-shift sergeant asked him if he was in the National Guard or the Reserves, and when he said no, he was told he’d be good man for the day shift. He wasn’t long on the job before an inmate—while trying to escape—put a knife to his throat. Another inmate distracted the potential escapee and Phillips was able to call for help. About the Author

Robert Phillips has been a member of law enforcement for more than thirty years. Some would say that “he’s seen it all.” But he’d tell you that there are some things he doesn't want to see. Phillips currently lives in Empire, Alabama.
