She opened the door smiling, “What did you forget?”
She was wearing pajama bottoms and a sweat shirt and had the look of having spent the night with someone. Her hair was wild. He knew the look; it was sex hair.
Damn it! She had sex hair with someone else. He growled with jealousy, pulled her against him, and kissed her hard on the mouth. He let his hands roam as he molded her body to his. He grabbed her rear end with both hands and pressed her hard against his erection. His primitive growl touched something unknown inside her, and she responded to his kiss. She was shocked, at first, by his attention but then melted into him, enjoying the way he felt against her until his hold grew too tight. She pushed away when she began to panic.
“That’s what I forgot,” he answered, grinning like the drunken fool he was.
He looked at her as if he had done her the biggest favor of her life. In his mind, he was smooth talking, lady’s man, Cat.
What she saw was: Cat with his hair standing straight up, where he had been running his fingers through it all night. He reeked of alcohol.
He could barely keep both eyes open and slurred when he answered, “That’s what I forgot!”
She pushed him backward outside of the doorway and squealed as she slammed the door, “Don’t make me shoot you!”

About the Book
On Friday the thirteenth of October, a five-year-old girl named James meets a monster at the Shreveport Holiday Inn. Now, there are those in southern Louisiana who believe in the legend of the rougarou—a werewolf that prowls the bayou. Others think the monster is nothing more than a Cajun tall tale. The Gauthier family, though, knows true evil exists.
Matthew Gauthier, his wife, and their four kids are a family built on love and pride, but their shared happiness is shattered that terrible Friday in October after attending the Louisiana State Fair. They move on in the aftermath, even James, who grows into a great beauty is always fearful of what hides in the night.
It is James’s loveliness that initially attracts rural Texas boy Charles “Cat” Thomas when they meet years later. It is her fragile nature—reminding him of his own tragic family history—that makes Cat want to protect this shy, secretive, young woman. Loving James comes at a terrible price, though, because the rougarou is still out there watching.

Shawn M. Beasley holds a BSN from Northwestern State University. She lives in Louisiana and has three children, four grandchildren, and two fur babies. She loves to spend time with her family, write stories, and take photographs. This is her first book.
