About the Book

i am cabbage is a collection of poems both long and short. It takes its title from the first short poem. The volume is divided into nine books or sections. The last poem is from a retired firefighter of twenty years and dedicated to the lost firefighters on 9/11.

For more than forty years I have been a sometimes poet. Thoughts have rattled around this old head of mine like rocks in a tin can. To push these thoughts away so I could get on with the business of living I wrote them down, tossed them in my desk drawer. Sometimes I would rediscover them, reread the pile, and throw away any that I did not like at that moment. After retirement I decided to empty the drawer.

About the Author

I was born in the back of a barbershop in 1937, and my first word was cut-cut. All my life I?ve been a busy person and sometimes poet for more than forty years. This volume is my collected work. In that busy life I?ve been a public school teacher(now retired after thirty years), volunteer fireman, state of Missouri certified level three fire service instructor, both an elected and appointed local government official. I hold a Master of Arts degree with work beyond.
