MAKE ME AN INSTRUMENT OF CARE is written with the understanding that as things seldom remain the same for very long and all men have the same range of experiences that everyone experiences the loss of someone emotionally significant to them from time to time.

• Consider that God may be calling them into His service in the role of caregiver
• Create a vision of themselves as caregivers
• Give form and substance to that vision by familiarizing themselves with concepts of loss and grieving, and as the vocation of caregiver is a calling to a high level of involvement in the lives of people, to become inwardly confident and secure in who they are by developing an image of themselves they can esteem and present effectively in situations of loss, and, finally, to
• Dedicate themselves to building the kind of relationships with those who experience loss that will persuade them that they are not alone as they walk through one of life's Valleys of Dark Shadows.

About the Author

Dr. Charles E. Smith is an author, retired licensed Marriage, Family, and Child Counselor with pastoral and chaplain experience and expertise in a variety of subjects ranging from self-esteem to after-care. Active in his community and church, and several times a grandfather, Dr. Smith lives with his wife, Norma, in Poplar Bluff, Missouri.
