About the Book

This is the story of a town and a time, as seen through the eyes of a boy who was born and raised there and lived there until he became a man.

It is my story, however, it is neither an autobiography nor a memoir, though it has elements of both, and much more. It not only tells stories of my life and experiences, but also describes many of the people I am related to and the activities and events that were shared with them as I was growing up.

As you read the book you will laugh and may cry, and there may be things in it that will either move you or trouble you. By the time you are done reading, you may discover, as I did, that people and places do not change as much as we think they have, or wish that they would.

Though I left Sheboygan behind many years ago, I have never forgotten the town and its people. And what happened to me there still influences my life and thinking, not just through memory, but because those experiences will always be a part of my being.
