PREFACE
What if after living your whole life, you discover you’ve lived the wrong one? Living a life of authenticity means evolving consciously and conducting an ongoing investigation of truth; the truth about who you really are and your purpose in life. Understand that life’s circumstances are all learning experiences. As you subject yourself to self-examination, listen to your thoughts and take note of your choices. With each lesson you are awarded a higher level of consciousness.
A recent Gallup poll indicated that 70 percent of American workers are unfulfilled and disengaged from their jobs. Of the 100 million people who hold jobs in America, the survey found that 30 million are actively engaged, 50 million are not engaged and 20 million are actively disengaged. These are disturbing facts and we have to be concerned about the impact it’s having on our society. As a people internally, we are struggling. The Gallup also estimates that unhappy, disengaged employees will cost the U.S. $550 billion in economic activity each year. But, the most important question is what is it costing you personally? And why don’t you leave that job you hate so much and do something you do well and love.
We are a ‘Money-vated’ society, motivated by money. We believe that most top performers enjoy what they do because they are financially successful. But, the truth is, the best producers and performers are successful because they enjoy what they do, while the job-squatters are busy clock watching, waiting for the 5 O’clock hour to go home. Meanwhile those who love their work have their heart and soul engaged. They work unaware of time; they outperform and exceed their contemporaries. Top performers and champions choose their profession by the enjoyment and fulfillment it provides them. We choose our careers because of the income potential, but that model is years gone by. That model got us through the Great Depression era with a purpose of survival. Now that we have survived, using this same model in today’s environment without a purpose for life and work, has produced a majority workforce of average, substandard performers. We are just working to make a living. The more authentic, progressive mindset is to pursue what you are good at doing and love.
“Happiness fuels success,” says Shawn Achor author of “The Happiness Advantage” It’s about working in your element. When you are doing what you love, using your innate ability, your special gift, you thrive and you do the extra. You become an expert in your area and experts are prosperous. Whenever you trade your money to purchase goods or services, you desire to buy the very best or the best you can afford to buy. If you are wondering, can I make money doing what I love, of course you can. If you are working in your element, you will be one of the best at what you do. So, the consumer wants to buy from you. Nobody wants to buy from the clock-watcher, we want to buy from the best known quality makers of the goods or services that we need or want.
Most of us go to work dreaming about retirement and trying not to get fired, instead of looking for ways to make our product, our service or the company we work for better. Why do we stay on such an unhappy merry-go-round; we need to make money. We have been trained and conditioned in a school to work model that says, “If we work hard, go to college, and get a good job we will be successful. But, this model does not produce happiness. What is success if happiness is not among its rewards?
Those who produce greatness are Passion-Directed, non- linear thinkers who live outside the box, where they believe anything is possible. Some of the greatest examples are Outliers of our society norms. Here are few of these impassioned non-linear thinkers; Bill Gates of Microsoft, Steve Jobs of Apple Computers, Warren, Buffet American Business Magnate of Berkshire Hathaway, Mary Kay Ash of Mary Kay Cosmetics, Dave Thomas of Wendy’s, Jenny Craig of Jenny Craig Corporation, Ted Turn (Former CEO & founder of CNN) Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook, Coco Chanel of Chanel Fashion & Fragrance, Milton S. Hershey of Hershey Chocolate Company, Simon Cowell of American Idol, Theodore Waitt of Gateway Computers, Ray Kroc of McDonald’s, Debbie Fields of Mrs. Fields Cookies, Walt Disney of Disneyland & Disney World, Richard Branson of Virgin Atlantic Airways & Virgin Galactic a Space tourism company, Rachel Ray of the Rachel Ray Show, Michael Dell of Dell Computers, Ralph Lauren of Polo, Henry Ford of Ford Motor Corporation, and Thomas Edison the great inventor and founder of General Electric. While most of us go to work hoping to find some fulfillment in the duties of our occupation, the great producers and performers work every day filled with passion and joy for their work. Their passion is what drives them. Passion and joy is the real secret to success. The love you have for your work and your own personal happiness is what will create the success you desire for your life. The simple truth is, if you are unhappy and disengaged with your occupation, only you can change it.
Begin by identifying your passion and your inherent talents, abilities and interests. The number one key is to develop a mindset that it's possible to do what you love and the money will follow. Once you adopt this belief, this consciousness, anything is possible. You can be good at many things, but you can only be great using your natural, innate gift if you develop it and use it. This book will help all who read it to realize that self-actualization, the art of being true to oneself, is challenging, yet an essential philosophy for authentic living. My purpose is to empower your ability to achieve without boundaries; to assist individuals of all backgrounds with leveraging the power of their gift, their unique ability to reach their highest potential. I will share an idea many of us have embraced, without questioning. Reaching your true destiny requires a paradigm transformation in your ethos, from the model posed by our Western culture, which suggests that financial and material gain determine success, to living by the principle of a Passion-Directed lifestyle. My mantra is, “Don’t Chase The Money, Follow Your Passion.”
