About the Book

Here is a "how to disciple" book that shows, clearly and practically, how Christians can forge meaningful relations with other members of God's family. It is also a heartfelt "why to" book—a powerful call for a spirit of unity and love within the body of Christ. Drawing on years of experience in churches and small groups, Anne Ortlund offers valuble specifics on:
- Forming small "spiritual family" groups that rejoice, suffer, pray, encourage, confess, forgive, and communicate with one another;
- combining the "ingredients" of small group gatherings—worship, Bible study, sharing, prayer, and accountability;
- Solving problems in the home by applying principles used in learning to function as a spiritual family;
- Understanding the discipling process ("You must be continually learning from someone who knows more than you do, and then you must be continually passing on what you know to someone who knows less");
- Practicing the "new commandment" (John 13:34, 35) that translates into authentic, biblical, "tough" love for one another.

Only a most blasé reader could get through this book without becoming genuinely excited. The author's enthusiasm for the church is expressed so cleverly, so persuasively, that it is bound to be contagious.

Includes sample small-group curricula for discipling men and women.
