About the Book

Lunar Fool began as a project of experimental short stories in imitation of an obscure form of medieval allegory, but it soon evolved into two extended dramatic monologues, or stagetales, The Lunar Project and The Holy Fool, which found a life and an audience in contemporary avant-garde theater. Author-narrator D.D. Delaney, characterizing himself as a picaresque seeker and surviving hippy, draws from the pages of his personal journal, a record spanning three decades, to trace his surreal trip through the landscape of the "Consciousness Wars" of the late 20th century, where normal daily life is upended by the intrusion of the adventurous psychic mind. Memorable characters walk off the page in this refreshingly funny, unflinchingly honest, beautifully written, and deeply considered literary gem, reporting from the outer banks of time. Included is the author's essay, "The Alchemist," describing the making of Lunar Fool, and excerpts from his most important journal sources, suggesting the ways journal-keeping functions in the creation of imaginative works.

D.D. Delaney is a free-lance journalist, professional actor, and author of 28 produced theater pieces. He and his wife Jala Magik, an artist, actress, and Tarot adviser, live by the Chesapeake Bay in Norfolk, VA, with dog Myrrha and cats Chi, Demi-Tasse, and Luna the White.
