About the Book

Carlos Castaneda was a brilliant scholar but legitimacy bored him. At UCLE he got a Ph.D. in anthropology by turning the latest social science theories into controversies with a mushroom-smoking hermit and feeding them back to his professors as an ancient Indian wisdom.

About the Author

Richard de Mille’s study of philosophy and science drew him to the don Juan books. Author of numerous academic and popular articles, he has done research in social intelligence and is recognized by anthropologists as the leading authority on the Castaneda phenomenon. His other books include The Don Juan Papers: Further Castaneda Controversies, Put Your Mother on the Ceiling: Children’s Imagination Games, and My Secret Mother: Lorna Moon.
