The author of Fiery Fast-Baller, Wint Capel, is former editor of a daily newspaper published in Thomasville, N.C., and now a freelance writer residing in Chapel Hill, N.C. He began collecting information for a book about the headline-making big-league pitcher Johnny Allen after learning Allen was reared at an orphanage in Thomasville.
