Turning left on Dixie Beach Road
the night after
Hurricane Jeanne sideswiped us,
I caught a mournful moon
peeking at me above her veil
of remnant hurricane cloud,
wanting to share my loss of island-
afraid to commit that indiscretion.

Joseph Pacheco?s poetry has been featured several times on National Public Radio. A retired New York City school superintendent, he published his first book of poetry in 2002. He writes a poetry column for the Sanibel Islander and has performed at the Cornelia Street Café in New York City with David Amram.
