About the Book

Francell Lee Schrader has written a heart warming and inspiring story based on the life of her grandmother Frances S. Lee. This remarkable trailblazing lady was a member of the Colorado Legislature in 1899/1900, twenty years before the constitutional amendment giving women the right to vote. Appalled by the horror of children working in the mines, Frances passed the Child Labor Law, the Compulsory Education Act, and much other landmark legislation protecting the health and safety of children.

Frances was the first women ever to preside over the Colorado House of Representatives and won a gold medal from the Cripple Creek Miners as one of the ¡°Immortal Thirty Three¡± legislators who could not be bribed. Because she was known for her principle of not accepting gifts from anyone outside her family, her honesty and integrity shine like a beacon in today¡¯s world. In the legislature again in 1913/14 at the time of the infamous Ludlow Massacre, Frances battled courageously on behalf of the miners.

About the Author

Francell Lee Schrader is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Denver and has travelled extensively in Europe and Asia. She has recently retired from a twenty year career in education as teacher, reading specialist, and school director in order to devote full time to writing.
