Here, two years later, he made his will, and wrote a farewell letter to his wife. Early the next morning, he rode off to fight a duel with Aaron Burr. The owner of The Grange did not return. Soon, the shutters of the house were closed. And closed as well was the last chapter in the life of a great and controversial American.
