We The People, Not We The Government

For the past 40 years living with post tramatic stress disorder (PTSD) has had a devasting affect on my life. As a young man, severteen years of age with college in my future, but realizing my parents would not be able financially to send me to college. However, upon meeting with a Marine Recruiter that explained to me serving my country in the military would give me an opportunity to attend college under the GI Bill. The recruiter made promises of traveling and seeing the world, which did not happen as described. Prior to joining the Marines, life for me was well adjusted in accomplished my dreams of running track and playing soccer. As a youth never involved with drugs or gang affiliation, my parents agreed that I should join the military. Viet Nam was a traumatic experience for me upon arrival with constant mortors heard in the surrounding area. After serving a total of 22 years in the military, it was a wake up call trying to transition back to civilian life only to realize it was not the same. Life in the military was a safe haven as most soldiers suffered through the nighmares, the sweats and the screams nightly, the only comfort was knowing you were not alone. Today, PTSD remain as a part of many soldiers lives including self. As I continue to struggle with PTSD it has caused the loss of family, marriage, friendships, and employment. Currently residing in the Phoenix metro area continously fighting with Veterans Administration to assist with proper medical care. This stroy need to be told because there are even more young veterans coming home today and not receiving the proper medical and financial help that is deserved. The past Administration and the Bush Administration have not fullfilled their bargin for each soldier returning from war.
