About the Book

This collection of verses is written in lyric form, and portrays scenes from nature and their parallel in human life. Most begin with simple observations of the ordinary world, and progress toward an analysis of our existence within that world. They explore the essence of our involvement with all facets of life, for as it has been said, “In the end, we all are One.”

About the Author

GENE JACKSON has written poetry for many years, beginning at Rice University in Houston, Texas, where he studied literature, classic poetry, and creative writing with James Dickey, among many others. Aided by their mentoring, his early work was accepted by several regional and literary journals. After a long sabbatical from publishing in favor of a career, he has collected many of his past writings and present work into this volume. He currently lives in Portland, Oregon, with his wife, and has three children and one granddaughter in the area. He continues to write, and to collect and edit previous work, as well as being a member of the Audubon Society, a guide at the Portland Japanese Garden, and to enjoy the beauty of the Pacific Northwest. After retirement two years ago I collected verses I had written over the last several years, added quite a few more, edited and assembled them into the present manuscript. I believe that this is a proper length and number of poems to publish in one volume and is a good representation of my recent and current work. I presently live in Portland Oregon with my wife and dog. Children are grown and scattered around the country in various professions. I enjoy the Pacific Northwest and do various activities that allow me to appreciate the beauty of the area including the coast, the river and the mountains.
