About the Author

John Stuper has been the Head Baseball Coach at Yale University for the past 17 years. Prior to that, he was a pitching instructor in the St Louis Cardinals organization, a place where he felt very much at home. In 1982, as a rookie, he helped the Cardianals win the World Series, 4 games to 3 over the Milwaukee Brewers. His complete game, 4-hitter in a 13-1 sixth game victory extended the Series to a seventh game. The Cardinals won it all the next day. For his efforts, Sports Illustrated named his performance one of the ten best by a rookie in the history of post season play. I have always tried to be a student of the game and was always an eager learner, even as a major leaguer. I was fortunate to play with some of the game's best, including Hall of Famers Bruce Sutter, Ozzie Smith, Tony Perez and Jim Kaat. I learned much from all of them and others, and I want very much to pass on that knowledge. That is the reason I became a coach, and it is the reason for this book. I live in Hamden, CT, just outside of New Haven, where Yale is located. I live with my wife Pam, who was a member of the US Field Hockey Team for nine years, and is in their Hall of Fame. We are both "fitness freaks" and enjoy working out together.
