“Generation after generation walks through these halls with a shorter grip on reality. It seems to me that parents have become accustomed to sheltering their children from the real world. So much so that they have presented their children with a false sense of reality and unfortunately it will eventually come back to haunt them. I understand that as a parent you want to protect your child but you cannot protect them forever. As an educator and positive role model in my student’s lives it is my job and responsibility to be completely unbiased and to assertively prepare my students for the rough road that begins after high school. I would love to tell them that they are all going to be successful and that life is going to be easy for them. Unfortunately it just doesn’t work that way; if I did not make an attempt to be direct and honest with them than I would fail to do my job.” "The system is flawed and people like you and I will never be able to change that. We have neither the power nor money that is required to execute change and this is something that I have come to accept."

As senior at a large public high school in a metropolitan area, Keith Sullivan faces unexpected adversity in his life. Keith has to deal with racism, education and violence as he prepares for the real world.
Degree In Irony is a fast paced, intriguing read and off ers an insightful look into the eyes of our youth.
About the Author
I'm Dennis Hagan and I was born and raised in the great city of Philadelphia and I currently live in the Mountains of Central Pa. It is quite the contrast of setting as I have traded in the city lights for the beauty of scenic views and wildlife. I graduated from West Chester University in December of 2005 and recieved a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Communication while also earning achieving a minor in Journalism. Originally it was my intention to be a sports journalist, but after graduation I decided to move towards a more creative writing style. I truly believe that is fundamentally unique to be able to put pen to paper and create a riveting story that people need to read. I hold high respect for the great story tellers of past and present and aspire to one day be mentioned among them. I have a great family who have been extremely supportive. I cannot thank them enough for all that they have done for me. They are my biggest fans and I would not be where I am without them. Thank you for everything. I owe alot of my inspiration to my lovely girlfriend as she continually encourages me to be the best that I can be. Thank you for your support.
