About the Book

This is the story setting out the life private of Pontius Pilate, the Governor of Rome who ordered the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ. The story depicts his life leading up to his appointment as the Governor of Judea and how he achieved the status he did from that of an ordinary Roman citizen from the province of Spain. His two fights in the Stadium and his marriage to a Roman aristocrat. His lifetime marriage and his wife’s support of the man he condemned to death.

His life after Christ’s death and his subsequent conversion to Christianity with his Wife, after meeting with and discussing his background with the Apostle Peter, and finally to their own end.

About the Author

The Qualification to write the book “The Jewel Within”. I am a retired accountant who has had a lifetime desire to become an author, but until nearing the end of my professional career never had the opportunity to indulge my passion. All of my life I have had a deep interest in the Roman Empire and the individuals whose lives have become a part of the prevailing memories, for many Christians. Of course there are many outstanding characters over the years; but few who have stirred the emotions of mankind so strongly as Pontius Pilate did, and still does. The other one who casts a longer shadow and is the one best known is Julius Caesar, but Pontius Pilate isn’t far behind. Over many years I have studied his life but surprisingly have found little that remains after the crucifixion of Christ, he seems to have returned to Rome and vanished into oblivion. Pontius Pilate and his aristocratic wife Procula Claudio, the niece of the Emperor Tiberius had a close marriage, but she pleaded with her husband not to be involved in the execution of Jesus Christ, on the basis of his innocence and being a good man. She had unbeknown to Pilate been to listen to, if not the man himself at least some of those who had become his followers. The theme to the book that I wrote is as close as possible to any information that could be found, and this information is the basis of the story that has been written here about the life of Pontius Pilate and his lifetime wife. What is certain is that they had a good life together, and we believe they became committed Christians near the end of their lives. This book contains as much information as is available about the life of Pontius Pilate, but gives little mention of his role in ordering the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ. There is more than enough written about that period of his life that has resounded down through the centuries and always will, as long as Christianity is such an important part or a huge part of mankind. Personal Notes: My life as a tax specialist and company analyst was a very busy one, and it wasn’t until retiring at the age of 72 did the chance to write full time become a reality and it has been a pleasure I have really enjoyed. At junior school and college it was the writing of 1,000 word short stories that was my favorite school activity, and I even enjoyed the writing of business letters, a very abbreviated for of the art of writing indeed. It started when as I was getting close to retirement , and filled in my time at the office just sketching out what was to be the finished products now. For a time retirement almost drove me crazy from boredom until writing became an outlet of interest, and suddenly the boredom was gone. It s not a continuing ache , sometimes when one sits down to write nothing will come, I have found when this happens its best to leave well enough alone and just forget writing for a while. I have been told by others this is just writer’s block and happens to most would be authors, and in fact established ones. The truth be known I often wish that writing had been my lifetime career, but the one that filled my life until 2007 has been a fulfilling one, in many ways during ones march through life. The experiences enjoyed during my travels worldwide is a big help in understanding what I have written within my books. Personal life: I live on the East Coast of Australia in the Central Coast of NSW, in a small middle class area within a few minutes’ drive from the beach. My wife and I live alone, but some of my own Grandchildren come out to stay during school holidays. My wife and I have no children although we both have children from a previous marriage. I was educated in New Zealand then came to Australia in 1970, and been here since apart from having worked in the USA and Europe from 1997-1992 as a missionary, but also doing Financing work for developers. I came back to Australia in 1992 intending to go back to the USA but never did, my Visa as a Missionary seemed to give me flexibility in my coming and going everywhere I travelled. In the course of my work it was my privilege to have been to 18 different states in America and quite extensively in Europe. Since returning to Australia I have worked in the Medical profession as a financial advisor to quite a few medical professionals, and run a medium sized development business.
