About the Book

Jason enters the 94th Olympiad hoping to win the title of the number one Panhellenic wrestler in the world. But he has more important things on his mind than fame and fortune and a place in the history books. His hometown has just abolished democracy and replaced it with a fascist-style government. Thirty hand-picked oligarchs have been installed in Athens, backed by a Spartan army of occupation. The Thirty have already started to eliminate all opposition with a ruthless series of purges and mass executions. Robespierre would have felt right at home in a city now ruled by “reason and terror.” In the face of this New Order most Athenians believe that resisting the pro-Spartan regime would be tantamount to suicide. Jason’s brother Konon, a famous actor, has watched as all those opposing the new government have been forced to pay a heavy price. Then the unthinkable happens. A small group of Athenian exiles and a daring band of athletes join hands to recruit a rebel army. This little army—they inform Jason—will take on the Thirty and the Spartan kings and the finest military machine in the world. Is this total boldness? Or total insanity? Jason—and his brother Konon—must decide.
