One facet of his life, never fully told in detail, was he story of his move from private life to the White House during his Presidency. It was a stressful and emotional period, following the death of Rachel, the person most dear to him, and he took the opportunity to ameliorate his sorrow by opening up the White House as a temporary residence for orphans and other young people of both sexes who needed love, caring, and education.
