About the Author
My Honours Diploma in Developmental Disabilities and Mental Illness, as well as a Post Graduate Honours Diploma in Addictions; Treatment & Prevention, and Forensic Certificate in High Risk Sexual Deviance and Anger Management, and Coaching studies have lead me down a fascinating path of the human condition that people don’t often encounter in their lives. Having these specialties has allowed me to work with some of the most unique individuals that live in our society. From the dually diagnosed (developmental disability and mental illness) to the NCR (Not Criminally Responsible) formerly known as the Criminally Insane and psychiatric clients, to addicts of all kinds, my professional career is nothing short of amazing. As I began to move away from working with atypical clients I began using my clinical counselling and coaching skills in working with mainstream individuals who have stress and stress related disorders or illnesses. The years that I studied Meditation and Buddhism under the guidance of Buddhist Monks allowed me to offer more comprehensive care to my clients. My quest to understand alternative forms of healing brought me to work with Shamen as well as physicists in order to understand the many facets of our psyche. It’s sometimes hard for me to believe that I have over 13 years of experience in my profession because at times it feels like only yesterday that I stepped into Georgian College, at the age of 31, a single parent with a toddler in tow, not knowing that I was about to embark on my true life’s path. I suppose my need to be involved with people stems from growing up in a large family with 12 children, albeit a somewhat dysfunctional family, peppered with alcohol, drug use and mental health issues, but close, at least while my parents were alive. Since childhood, I've also possessed some limited psychic ability but did not pursue it. What I did make use of was my ability to read people and analyze their behaviour in spite of how they would have presented. It was a gift that I did not feel compelled to use to any professional degree until I went back to College and became involved with the aberrant side of the human condition. Just after I started working full time in my profession I felt a call to study Meditation and Buddhism under the guidance of awe inspiring Monks at my local Buddhist Temple. I began to see how powerful our minds really are and I also began to learn about the Universal Energy Source, or Spirit with which we all operate via the Universal Laws. I thought this was a great adjunct to my more scientific studies of the human brain, biology and psychology, which all capture my fascination. I now live in Toronto with my daughter who is my heart and my most precious gift, and am engaged to an amazing man who is my biggest cheerleader and my true soul mate. I know without a doubt that I am on my true spiritual path and have great work to do with people. All roads, good and bad have lead me to this place where I live a life filled with joy, love and abundance, and have been able to recognize it, probably for the first time in my life. I am grateful for every moment. It is now, and has been for the past 13+ years, my turn to share these gifts with you.
