Pasadena to Brooklyn via Route 66-HOW PLANS CAN CHANGE-During the 50's and 60's

It was eleven o'clock at night and the phone rang. Vito looked at Vince and said , "Who could be calling at this time of night?" Vito hesitantly picked up the phone and just by the look on Vito's face Vince knew it wasn't good news. Vince thought it was Tina, but when he said, " Hello" it was her father good old Vittorio. When Vince heard his voice he got a sickening knot in the pit of his stomach, he said, " Mr. Cicero, "How are you?" Without acknowledging his greeting,Vittorio immediately went for Vince's jugular vein. In his bravado and angry voice he opened up the conversation with regard to his daughter Tina. He said, "I understand you're leaving tomorrow and that you and Tina have made plans for her to come to visit you in California, when she gets her two week vacation." Before Vince could respond he immediately reads him the riot act. Vittorio said, "I don't know if you know who the hell you are dealing with." At that point Vince couldn't hold back any longer. He interrupted the old man and said to him, "I hope that I know who I am dealing with, for I've known you for the last nine years." Vittorio said, with a vengeance, " Don't you ever interrupt me again! I want to let you know that what I told you at the dinner table regarding taking my daughters past the Holland Tunnel still stands." Vince interrupted him again, and said," Yes I do remember. Are you threatening me again ?" Vince said, " Forget your shotgun, and told him that his daughter was not a kid any more and that she was going on twenty two years old and that she could make her own decisions. Well Vince really pushed the wrong button and Vittorio yelled out,, " YOU SON OF A BITCH I'll say it again , who the hell do you think you are talking to!" He said, " First of all I know where you live and if for some reason, Tina manages to go out to California, you are going to be in deep shit!" He continued by saying, " If you are to ignorant to understand and go against my wishes and don't care about yourself think about your family!" Vince was taken back at this point and really didn't know how to respond. He said, "Vittorio you are blowing this whole thing out of proportion. Tina and I love each other and I'm sure if you were in my shoes you would be doing the same thing." The old man said with an ear deafening bellowing voice, " I am not in your shoes so don't give me that crap." With the tone of the conversation, Vito was pacing madly back and forth in the kitchen making gestures at Vince trying to get a hint of what was going on. Vince motioned with his right hand and his index finger and passed them by his throat as if to say his throat was being cut and that quickly gave Vito a picture of what was going on.Vittorio said, "Don't you ever call me by my first name again, it's Mr, Cicero to you!
