John had a real thirst so he headed for the first saloon he saw, the sign said Gus’ Place. John pushed the double bat winged doors open, and then stepped inside, waiting for his eyes to adjust to the dark room. He Walked over to the bar. He laid a nickel on the bar, cold beer. Cole picked the beer up with his right hand took a sip and looked around the bar. Two young men, not as young as Cole, maybe a few years older, were looking at him. The short one said; “You do not look old enough to be a famous Gunfighter to me”. Not wanting trouble, Cole said; “that is because I am not”. “You wear that gun like you are.” “I wear mine the same as you. Are you a famous gunfighter”? “Not yet but I plan to be.” “Good luck,” And sipped his warm beer. Shorty hitched up his gun belt, “are you trying to say I will not be?” John was getting a little annoyed at the young stranger, “All I am trying to do is drink a beer, so why don’t you just leave me be. “Is Bill Cole your brother?” Cole set his beer down on the bar, turned and faced Shorty “who I am is none of your business. Now mind your own business and let me alone.” Smirking Shorty said, “What if I don’t want to leave you alone?” Cole turned slowly and faced the big mouth.

About the Book
Growing up in Ohio in the 1860s, brothers Bill and John Cole dream of going west and becoming gunfighters. They have no intention of following in their father’s footsteps and working the land, spending their days as farmers. At eighteen, Bill is the first to leave and become a deputy. He cleans up the town of Amber Walls, Texas, and is believed to be the fastest gun of his time. But there’s one faster—his brother, John, who rides into Abilene, Kansas, on his bay mare and leaves his mark on this western town as a deputy sheriff. He becomes known as the “left-handed gun.” All those who challenge young John Cole end up six feet under in Boot Hill. The Left-Handed Gun follows the trials and fortunes of Bill and John Cole as they tackle the challenges of the Old West. They learn that all who take the way of the gun will sooner or later end up on Boot Hill.

Tony Monte is a retired widower who lives in upstate New York. An avid fan of the Old West, he collects guns; his hobbies include hunting, leather working, wood sculpting, and flying remote-controlled airplanes.
