There are at least eleven questions in psychology that have to do with what there is. They include What is Psychology? What is Behaviorism? What is Science? What is Behavior? What is a Stimulus? What is Learning? What is Reinforcement? What is Motivation? What is Emotion? What is Instinct? and, What is Human Nature? Many more might be enumerated but, since they are all about what there is, they are ontological. Along with epistemology or the study of how we know what there is, ontology or the study of what there is are branches of metaphysics in philosophy and that is why these questions are referred to as problems of metaphysics and psychology.

No one of them was answered for all time earlier, and they are not likely to be answered now but reissuing the book at this time may remind those who are interested of what has gone before.

Jay Eacker is now a professor emeritus of psychology who taught college courses in introductory psychology, applied and experimental analysis of behavior, and the history of psychology for over thirty years.
