There’s mom! She’s running along on the sidewalk. Why isn’t she in the car with us? Maybe we came out to find her because my stepfather is rolling down the window on his side of the car. Maybe she’ll see us and get in. My stepfather reaches for the metal object on my lap and hangs it outside the window, it’s making a popping noise. I think he scared mom because she’s running faster. My stepfather places the metal object back on my lap; only now it’s not cold, it’s kind of hot. Oh! I see mom again and my stepfather reaches for the metal object on my lap again and hangs it out the window and it’s popping again. Now he stops, rolls his window back up, and places the metal object back on my lap. It’s really hot this time - I don’t want it on my lap, it’s burning.

About the Book
A young girl growing up between two households; that of her grandmother and her stepfather. She experiences sexual abuse at one and witnesses domestic abuse at the other.
As she becomes a young woman branching out on her own, she searches for a better life. Freeing herself of the sexual abuse and hoping to find love. Her path is filled with heartbreak, betrayal, danger and disappointments.
About the Author
Michele Greene is a native of Cleveland, Ohio.
A product of the late 60s Black Pride movement; and the 70s flower child and free love era.
Her life has taken her from working in public relations to public speaking. She has dabbled in radio as a DJ and has written free-lance articles for magazines.
She continues to live in Cleveland, Ohio, taking in all it has to offer in life experiences.
