Our nation---once proud and respected around the world--- is in trouble. Many of the values, such as honesty, trust, loyalty, respect, moderation, and self-accountability, are in decline. That is causing significant consequences across all segments of our society: government, education, business, religion, family, community, and youth. It is imperative we turn this around.
The major dollars expended and the scope of volunteer effort across our country may have slowed this decline, BUT it has not turned the tide. The only hope I see is for a great many Americans with sound values, love of country, and a good quality of life to take up this challenge and preserve the American promise, dream, and potential survival for their children, grandchildren, and all who follow. That is why I wrote this book.
Values are the moral ethics and principles that guide decision making, behavior, and relationships with others. Ethical values like honesty have a connotation of right or wrong Merit values like being a conservative or liberal or somewhere in between allow one to position where they are on a continuum. As new technologies, laws, life styles, and the like develop they must be carefully tested against lasting values as to how best to implement and/or adapt to and accept them to minimize consequences over the long term.
The book demonstrates the decline in values and the impact across all segments of our society. It explores how our values develop and are applied and pitfalls along the way. It provides guidelines and examples to help one improve their values and how they are applied. It translates its basic purpose into action through suggestions, examples, and a roadmap to help one share their positive values and quality of life with others in need. It leaves the reader with the premise that the greatest reward one can have in life is to help another improve their values and quality of life.
John Zimmerman has worked with executives in organizations around the world as a consultant and director of Kepner-Tregoe, Inc., with several volunteer organizations, with his family, and several young persons on the importance of values to decision making, behavior, and relationships with others. He has co-authored two books, written a third book and published many articles. He, and his wife Charlotte, raised four sons, have twelve grandchildren, are retired, and live on Amelia Island, Florida.

About the Author
John W. Zimmerman, Sr. has worked with executives in many organizations around the world as a consultant and director with Kepner-Tregoe, Inc. He has also been very active with several volunteer organizations. He wrote the book, The Culture of Success as well as co-authoring Top Management Strategy and Vision in Action. He has written numerous articles and is a contributor to several business books. Now retired, Zimmerman lives on Amelia Island, Florida, with his wife, Charlotte.
