“I did not work on those damn projects!” Albert shouted. “I was a young man who needed an income and …”
“You may not have worked specifically on poison gas projects, but your affiliation with the organization enhanced its reputation, thereby securing increased funding for it and for its poison gas efforts.”
“Damn you, Jack! I once respected you for your intellectual honesty and abilities. Yet now you seek to vilify me as a means to conceal your own actions. I knew scientists, including a Jew, who helped develop poisonous weapons. But I never helped them! In contrast, you set the stage for military acts in Vietnam that not only claimed the lives of tens of thousands of Americans, but hundreds of thousands of Asians have died as a direct result of your war. And before it is over, it will probably exceed one million!”
Sal took hold of Albert’s right hand and Jack’s left before saying, “Both of you were great men with exceptional abilities. Unfortunately, neither of you could avoid being drawn into conflicts, not of your making, which forced you to make difficult decisions that would have long term unforeseen consequences. History will judge each of you. But here, in this place, we should not judge anyone but ourselves.”

About the Book
What happens when an assassinated president, a world-renowned scientist, and a brilliant writer meet over a card game in the afterlife? How have the actions of these complex, talented men determined where they are now, and what will they talk about now that they’re together?
Love and joy fill the highest region of the afterworld, while suffering and a sense of nothingness engulf the lowest. Between the two is Nowhere, a place of uncertainty where one may stay a long time, but no one stays forever. Inhabitants of Nowhere have done both extreme good and extreme evil in their lives on Earth. Many have also played important roles in world events. This novel tells a story of how John F. Kennedy, Albert Einstein, and Ernest Hemingway come together in the middle region of the afterworld. Maybe one day they will be forgiven for all their misdeeds and shortcomings. In the meantime, the three discuss everything from the investigation into Kennedy’s assassination to Hemingway’s religious views.
Then Salvatore arrives. Sal is not famous or admired around the world for anything; he is a violent Italian criminal who loves the Virgin Mary. Will he lead the group to the region of joy and love or the region of emptiness and despair? Join these four around the card table as they challenge one another’s thinking with humor and insight about such historic events as the Vietnam War, the fall of the Berlin Wall, and more, while undergoing the process determining their own ultimate fate.
About the Author
Art Marsicano’s wife died after a five-year battle with ovarian cancer. During her illness and for many years before, they debated the nature of the afterlife, with friends, family, and clergy often joining in. The author of three other books, Marsicano lives in Pottsville, Pennsylvania.
