How You Can Be an Awesome Grandpa

During the surveys I notice a unique difference when children (of every age) responded to the questions about their own Grandfathers, versus Grandfathers talking about being a Grandfather. Memories of being a child didn’t have any responsibilities attached to them, but being a Grandfather carried more accountability.

The thing that fascinated me the most was the manner in which individuals, who talked about their relationship with their Grandfather, began their response. It didn’t matter the setting or situation, in a crowd, by ourselves, busy, relaxed, cold or hot, when I asked the first question, they would pause then have a noticeable relaxing of their body take place, almost if they were moving into another state of existence, as their mind and spirit began gathering significant moments of their past, searching for a way to convey their emotions of those choice experiences of their younger lives. You could actually see in their eyes a special light emitting from them as they described their experiences with their Grandfather or Grandfathers. For a moment, you could see their thoughts and feelings of happiness while they reflected back in time. As they described each of their experience or stories, I couldn’t help but being drawn to and captured up in their wave of feelings. The feelings were real, deep and powerful. They wanted to share the ups and downs, the happiness and sadness, the laughter, the pains, all of it coming forth, in great details with wonderful animations of their joy to be able to reveal with you about their ancestors. It was also enlightening to me, in almost every interview there was a touching expression of love and reverent respect for their Grandfather.
