“Your precious butler lives,” Vloth said. “For how much longer is up to you.”
Puma reached down and yanked Ikabod’s head back. Argentia saw something awful had happened to his eye. Pantra’s clawed hand flashed across the butler’s face, drawing bloody furrows in his cheek. Ikabod screamed.
“Don‘t!” Argentia cried, stepping involuntarily towards the image of the twins. “You bitches!”
“Old blood…” Puma said.
“But still tasty,” Pantra completed. She licked her cruel nails. Puma purred laughter.
“Come for your butler, Argentia Dasani,” Vloth said. “Come to my Frost Palace and save him—if you can.”
The image of Ikabod and the twins changed to that of a huge crystalline pyramid rising above a bleak white landscape. “Be swift,” the guildmaster said. “My kittens are bored already. I do not know how much longer I can keep them entertained. If you have not come in one moon’s time, what you just saw will seem a mercy.”
“I swear, if you touch him—”
“Then come!” Vloth pointed a fat, ringed finger at Argentia. “One moon, Dasani. My gauntlet has begun!”
