"Oh, definitely they should look like Mom and Dad," I said. "The dog too; he was a little shih tzu. But I guess we could use a generic parrot, a green one. And, actually, I suppose a generic shih tzu will do. They all look alike." He took our his calculator, banged away at the keys, and then said, "I could do the whole thing for $7500. And you will love it, I guarantee!" "We have a deal," I exclaimed. From The Dance and the Trinity: Can you love all of your children equally, and yet love one more than the others? It sounds like a paradox, a contradiction, and Mark and I will go to our graves insisting, and believing, that we love all four of our children equally, and yet we know, deep in our hearts, that we love Maddie more than the others without loving the others any less. Maddie is our first born, our primogenita, the little girl who taught us to really understand the meaning of love and who taught me, at least, how to comprehend that great mystery of Christianity, the Trinity. From The Long Binh Bar: Captain Williams had his own personal jeep, and that, alas, was our downfall. After dinner, Captain Williams suggested that, instead of grabbing a few drinks at the officers' club, we drive into Bien Hoa, the nearest :big city", to visit the famous Long Binh Bar, a French era hotel that had been converted into a B&B, Not Bed and Breakfast; but Bar and Brothel. Who could say "No" to an offer like that?

About the Author
Jim Farrell earned a master’s degree in accounting from the University of Rhode Island and a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from the Gregorian University in Rome, Italy. He spent eleven years in a Roman Catholic seminary, served as a captain in the U.S. Army and worked with Air America in Vietnam. Now retired, he lives with his wife, Marianne, in Palm Coast, Florida. He recently published the novel, Brooklyn Boy.
