Using the “PEE” format for Module One essay where P stands for Point, E stands for Example and E stands for Explanation.
Firstly in each paragraph you utilize the P- by making a Point to identify either the organizational strategy or language technique which you are going to discuss. Secondly you utilize the E-by giving a supporting Example taken from the excerpt. Do not write line number but write out the words. You may use Ellipsis, only if you know how to use it correctly, otherwise as I have cautioned my students, for safety sake, please write out the entire example of the strategy or technique.
Thirdly you write about the second E-by giving an Explanation to the question, ‘How does this example of the strategy or technique help the writer to achieve the purpose?’ Your explanation is also about whether the said strategy or technique was used effectively in the excerpt to achieve the intended purpose.
