It only took us another hour and a half before we were overlooking the village it seemed we had once relied on as a life line not so long ago. Following Joshua down to the ghost town below I kept my eyes peeled knowing that the NWO and fiends actively patrolled through this area for supplies and a place to stay. Joshua unaware of the danger continued to walk along the side of the road toward the graveyard.
Once we arrived at his mother’s grave I took off my headdress giving him a respectful nod before taking my leave to the entrance of the cemetery to give him some time alone.
“Hello mother,” He began kneeling down by the grave rummaging around in his backpack retrieving a freshly picked lily setting it at the base of the gravestone. “I know it’s been awhile sense we last spoke but I’m doing well, Lara and Lance have opened up their arms to me allowing me into their family. Things are looking up around camp as well with every day that goes by it seems another victory for the humans, some of the boys think the war will be over by the end of the year. I’m not that foolish to believe such things, this war will truly never be over but at least we can always hold on to the hope of peace I suppose. I’ve made some new friends around camp, Jessica is doing great as well, I think she`s the one.”I glanced over at the kid a smirk spreading across my face. As he knelt there his eyes closed blushing to himself as he talked about how much he loved Christopher’s daughter and rambled on about a few other things around camp before opening his eyes placing a kiss on his hand and then placing it on the tombstone. “I miss you mother, stay safe up there.” He finished off getting up and dusting himself off.
“Ready to go slugger?” I called over to him throwing my ball cap back on.He nodded grabbing his stuff and we headed back up the way we came arriving back to camp just as mid-day began to set in.

Jean-Pierre Breton was born in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. He fell in love with writing in the first grade and has been working on the Unexpected War series ever since. Breton currently serves in the Canadian Forces. This is the third book in his series.
