Gary starts describing a game he learned from one of his cool new age mystic friends; The premise was a person would leave the room and everybody else would stay. A person in the group would pull out a piece of jewelry like a ring, necklace, watch, bracelet, earring, etc… The lights would be turned off… Then, the person who left the room would come back in and the object would be passed around and eventually given to the reader of the object without any knowledge of who it belonged to.
“You want to close your eyes and picture yourself as a tree…” He would say to the person attempting to read the kinetic energy of the object. “Picture you are a tree in a place of your imagination and creation… Picture your tree is an extension of you... Now picture yourself going deep into the ground through the roots and describe what you see when you come out the other side...“ And so on. Gary explained how we would want the reader to focus on becoming this tree and growing roots deep into the proverbial ground. There were a handful of us up there that night, and for the first few minutes it was a silly game. We didn’t get any real results at first. A couple people tried to do a reading to no avail, while others thought it was stupid or ridiculous and stayed to merely get a laugh. Everyone in the room had the opportunity to try out their clairvoyant abilities if they wanted to. With absolutely no supernatural connection or vision, the majority of them just wanted to go back down stairs to party, becoming disinterested more and more after each attempt turned failure. I was the last to try… and the first to succeed. (Matthew 20:16)
After each embarrassing failure to tap into the supernatural, the atheists of the group reaffirmed their faith, while others started to consider that maybe there just isn’t any such thing as the supernatural, spirits, angels, demons, heaven, hell or any type of spirit realm whatsoever. When the majority of the group was convinced that this was a complete waste of time; talk of drinking and debauchery was next on the list. Yet, one friend had asked the group to consider letting me have a try since I was the only one to not be given the opportunity. I was slightly reluctant as I didn’t want to hold up the party, but I also thought “What if...”
Of course not everyone was about to waste another ten minutes of their time to watch one more person fail at this childish game. Some left, leaving only a few of us to our newly found witchy ways. It was my closer friends who stayed to give divination one more try. So there I was, standing outside the room hearing only faint whispers from within. There’s a knock from within, signaling me to enter. I sit down in the circle as the object of interest was being passed around. As it finally settles in my hand, in the darkness, a hush comes over the group. I was holding what felt like a metal charm bracelet of sorts; I could feel a small metal chain with various items on it. I didn’t want to speculate, but I was pretty sure this belonged to a female. Which was great, because I knew most of the guys in that room personally and I didn’t know any of the girls on a personal level; the only girl I was personally invested in was Wendy and she wasn’t at that party. Being that it was a girls bracelet and I had no real connection or background understanding of these girls I thought this could be a great opportunity for a clairvoyant reading, if that sort of stuff was real, which at that point I could have gone either way; Hence the fact that I was upstairs in a room full of young adults wanting to connect with the supernatural, no matter the cost.
So, I began the imaginary tree dream sequence. I was extremely good at this part, it came very naturally to me; I don’t know if it was due to my artistic interests growing up, my musical ability, my tenacious ideas, child abuse, or some natural inclination to the supernatural… Whatever the reason, I could do this clairvoyant divination stuff without breaking a sweat. I could see myself as this tall dried out oak tree, Only I was in the desert, nothing but dry earth flatland all around me. The sun was setting and it was getting cold. I then looked into the ground and sinking deeper and deeper, I imagined my roots growing and growing into the depths of the earth. A moment later it happened… I broke through. Yet, instead of breaking through this proverbial and supernatural wall in the physical sense that you might expect, I didn’t go down and breakthrough some rooftop, I went so deep I arrived head up on the other side... Yes, of course this is all in my mind and it could have all been my imagination up until this point, but I was being given guidance by Gary up until this point. This was as far as any of us had come yet. As of this point it was no longer Gary giving me information on how to get there in my mind, I had arrived. I was seeing things vividly that I didn’t quite understand. In retrospect, I kinda wish that it would have just been my imagination, but then of course I wouldn’t be compelled to tell you this story.
So, if I could try and describe it in a physical way for you to imagine, I would say it was like falling asleep and suddenly waking up in a different place. Except when I woke, I no longer had a body persay, but to put simply a celestial like vision and auditory sense that came from my ethereal head. It was like my head just popped out of the ground inside a room in a different house with carpet instead of hard wood floors and it was daytime instead of nighttime. I was in the corner of the room looking around at all the things I could see. I began to describe what I saw to the others. It was strange, like my body was still in the room with my peers but my mind was in a different place and time. I could see clear as day and hear like I was listening through a few inches of water ; You know, like when you put your head under water for a moment in the pool and in that moment you can still hear what's going on outside of the pool but it has a muffled filter to it… It was like that. I began to describe the room I was in; sights and sounds. I saw a purple and pink theme throughout the drapes to the bed covers. I saw a white dresser, vanity mirror, dirty pink and white reebok shoes on the floor and lots of stuffed animals on the bed. Then the vision took a dark turn; I heard yelling from outside the room. A man and a woman by the sound of it. Then in what seemed like slow motion, I saw a girl run into the room sobbing. She dove face first into the stuffed animals on her bed, crying uncontrollably as the fighting outside the room grew louder and louder. The girl held tightly to a stuffed animal that resembled a teddy bear, but it was a puppy with dark brown threading…
“STOP! STOP! STOP!” Kelly screamed. I opened my eyes and my mind was back in my body. “TURN ON THE LIGHTS!” She begged as she choked up with tears. The fun and games had come to a screeching halt as panic and confusion permeated the room. The lights were on and everyone was in shocked. “What’s wrong Kelly?... Why are you so upset?” They asked her. “You guys, that’s not funny!... Why would you guys do that to me?...” she responded. We all just kinda looked at each other in bewilderment. “How did you know that stuff Jonny!?! Who told you!?!” She asked with pain and fury in her eyes. “What are you talking about Kelly? I was just describing what I saw.” I replied. Then she started crying even harder as she put her hands to her face and balled.”Everybody out!” she cried. We all began to realize what had happened as we exited the premises.
