About the Book
How much of yourself can you give to another person before you feel empty? Through all the blood, sweat, and passion, love can sometimes feel hollow—especially when the enthusiasm is not reciprocated. Written in Japanese senryu format, Ascension is a novella in verse that tells the heartbreaking story of one man’s unfortunate tussle with unfair love.
Special Because I’m a man, I can’t feel special Where the hell are my flowers, my candy My five star brunches, dinners with candles My spontaneous gifts that are fancy My pre-planned dates, trips, and activities My random phone calls to say “I love you” Why don’t you ignite our intimacy I pledged ninety-eight percent to your two.For decades, our narrator has suffered depression and anxiety. Sadly, his loved ones, friends, and love interests have served as the cause of his mental illness. He asks the question, Are the things you want in life worth the mental toll? Now, he struggles to overcome his obstacles. And he can by putting depression to bed and rising above the tumultuous relationships that have ruled his every breath for much too long.
