This book was designed for use in courses that focus on the economics of development in Africa, Asia, Latin America, Caribbean, and the “transition” countries of East Europe and the former Soviet Union now classified as developing countries. It is structured and written both for students who have had some basic training in economics and for those with little or no formal economics background.
About the Author
Biographical Note about the Author, Max Alphonse Cineus Max Alphonse Cineus was born and raised in Haiti, where he lived until the year 1980. Haiti is geographically located in the Caribbean. Many people traveled to the Caribbean islands every year. The Caribbean islands are one of the most exciting places to travel in the world. One of these islands in the Caribbean Sea is the island of Hispaniola, which is shared by both the countries of Haiti and the Dominican Republic. Hispaniola has a good record of history, special resources, and very beautiful sites to visit. The general facts, history, and culture all affect the ways of this country. The country of Haiti is situated in the Caribbean Sea, which is just south of the Gulf of Mexico. The capital is Port-au-Prince, which is located very close to the island of La Gonave. Haiti’s culture is very much like the French. In fact, Haiti is the only Latin American country where the culture is French. The first language is French, but another common language that is spoken there is Creole. Many of the people speak Creole because the French settlers introduced this language to them. Creole is a mix of French and is the native language that spoken on the island. Max left Haiti in the 1980s and immigrated to Montreal (Canada) to study agronomics/agriculture. After a year in 1981, he moved to the United States. There, he lived in Brooklyn, New York, from 1981 to 2000. From 2000 to 2005, Max had moved to Queens, where he lived in this city with all his nuclear family. While writing this book, Max is currently living in East Vineland after moving from Galloway, New Jersey, in the year 2008.
