Study shows that decision-making is a very important function in everyday life (Brand, Matthias & Markowitsch, J. Hans, 2010). Decision-making is a critical piece in human existence, both in personal and professional relationships. And the quality of our decision-making is determined by how confident we are in ourselves. In other words, researcher Teri, J. Helper (2016) study concluded that, self-efficacy is a significant and positive predictor of first option quality, final decision quality, and final decision confidence, with marginal significance on final decision speed. It is evident that the quality of our decision-making matter. It is the cornerstone of how we do business, socialize, and promote personal relationships. Interestingly, if we want to measure our successes in any area of our lives, check the quality of our decision-making in that particular area. For example, if our personal lives are not improving in terms of feeling happy or grateful, we should check how we make decisions in that regard. If our relationships with our spouses are not flourishing, we should check the quality of our decision-making in terms of communication and commitment. If we are not doing well in class exams, we should check our mode of studies and company that we keep in that regard. If our social lives are dwindling, check how we relate with one another. If our business is suffering, question our decision-making approach and make necessary moves to revitalize our business. If our relationships with our teenage sons and daughters are not in harmony, consult our decision-making techniques and repent from poor judgments, and eventually develop a new approach in cultivating healthy relationships with our children. The list goes on how the quality of our decision-making influence influences our lives. Our lives take different directions when we acknowledge the importance decision-making. While certain life situations are unavoidable i.e., death, sickness, etc, there are ways to enjoy the moment. The way is by deciding to enjoy the moment. The moment that we decide to live a peaceful life, we then begin to position our thoughts and actions to reflect what we desire. When we do that, the universe will present that which we work toward. Decision-making requires conscious efforts and deliberate actions; it is never a random act.

About the Author
Robert Ackerman earned his bachelor’s degree from the College of Saint Rose. He has held several positions within the New York State Government and currently serves as a president of wireless infrastructure company. He is married and has five children. J. Ibeh Agbanyim is a Harvard Kennedy School trained leadership development practitioner, best-selling author, public speaker, and organizational psychology practitioner. He is the founder of Focused Vision Consulting, LLC, and has been a senior logistics associate at UPS for the past twenty years. He holds a graduate degree in industrial-organizational psychology.
