About the Book
A book about the geology, soils, and plant communities in ultramafic (serpentine etc.) landscapes from arctic and boreal areas in Alaska and Canada to Central America and the Caribbean area.
About the Author
Earl Alexander was born and educated in Ohio, with a PhD degree from the Ohio State University. He has mapped soils, developed interpretations for soils and land management, and trained and supervised experts in these activities for the Forest Service of the US Department of Agriculture, the University of Nevada, and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations. His professional experiences have been mostly in western North America, from Alaska to Baja California, and in Central America. He has done geoecological mapping in California, Oregon, and Central America. He is the author of a soils book, Soils in Natural Landscapes, and the first author of another book, Serpentine Geoecology of Western North America. Many of his professional articles are cited in the book.
