Carl Rogers had a lasting impact on counseling, psychotherapy, psychology, education, and even pastoral care. However, some adherents have expressed concern about distortions of his ideas as if we have some obligation to promote, and adhere to them. It seems odd that approach that prizes grasping the differing perceptions of human beings on a host of matters, would all but coerce new followers of the approach to conform to the previous generation's understanding. This project is about affirming different slants concerning the person-centered approach without directly stating them. More than that it is an effort to encourage new thinking and interpretations about what it means to be person-centered while still holding the principles and attitudes of the approach.

Human beings have vast resources for social, personal, and spiritual growth. This project presents some of the thoughts, ideas, and notions of writers who have dedicated themselves to an approach that facilitates the emergence of the self that one truly is. The differing perspectives reflect a deep commitment to a process that is in many ways indefinable. Yet, each writer presents a snapshot of a process that is incredible to behold, and witness.
About the Author
Doug Bower discovered the Person-Centered Approach while taking an Interpersonal Relations class while studying nursing at Manatee Junior (Community) College in Bradenton, Florida. He had his "ah-ha" experience about the approach several years later studying with Jerold Bozarth at the University of Georgia in Athens, GA.
