STILL LIFE

THE AMOUNT OF TIME I DO NOT HAVE I really can’t begin to tell, ‘cause I simply don’t have time today, I truly must get to that second job, so I can get that second pay. I have the checks that I’ve been paid, but didn’t get to the bank, The amount of time I did not have, has me driving on an empty tank. I can hardly stop to fill up now, ‘tho I expect bumper to bumper traffic; Neither can I afford to break down, but I have no time for a mechanic. I really do not have the time to rest; do you have some time to spare? I cannot lie down in the bed to sleep; no, maybe I’ll just sit in the chair. I need to reply to Mom’s phone calls, she has been so very persistent; It’s Christmas now and I’m so busy; she may just have to wait till Lent. I haven’t had time for proper meals; I’m just grabbing things on the go, Now I’m having dizzy spells, but I don’t have time to let my doctor know. I do not have much time at all, or many friends; I think it is so unfair: Yesterday came to such an abrupt end, looks like the same today, I fear. That deep voice in my house, made me realize that my boy is now a man. He’d graduated college and is now ready to wed a truly beautiful woman. He is a man and no longer the little boy for whom I once had no time; I didn’t have time to advise him, so I’m now writing this little rhyme. Please be forewarned that we all get the same amount of time each day; It’s entirely up to you right now to spend it, in a most rewarding way. Be thankful and make your days fruitful, make them be of some worth; Every single tick on the clock takes some energy and some effort. First be kindest to yourself and then follow up being kind to others; Think not of the time you do not have; what you DO have is what matters.
