The Decision to Resign as Governor

The Democrats are bashing Sarah Palin’s decision to resign as Governor of Alaska stating that she is a quitter. I take exception to the claims that leaving the office was quitting. The idea of being a lame duck Governor did not appeal to Palin. Sarah Palin knew that she would not be running for a second term as governor and did not want to be in the position as a lame duck. Instead of being a lame duck it is better to have the new governor step in and lead the state. By doing so the transition was smooth and the state was able to function the way it should. Sarah Palin on the other hand was able to devote all of her energies to helping others within the Tea Party and Republican Party to get a majority elected in the House and make strides into the control of the

Senate by the Democrats.

Sarah Palin kept her future plans shrouded in mystery and it was unclear if the controversial hockey mom would quietly return to private life or begin laying the foundation for a presidential bid.

What scares the Democratic Party is the fact that Sarah Palin is a dynamic and tough opponent and will cause the Democrats to be concerned about winning the Presidency in 2012. The Democrats had better perform better during the last two years of Obama’s administration or they are going to really face hostile voters in 2012. They are on course to keep doing what they have done for the last two years. By retaining Reid and Pelosi as the leaders of their party it looks like some more of the same from the Democrats.

When Alaska’s Governor Sarah Palin abruptly announced that she is resigning from office, a shocking move that rattled the Republican Party but left open the possibility she would seek a run for the White House in 2012.

Many lame duck politicians just accept that lame duck status and they hit that road. They draw a paycheck. They kind of milk it. Sarah Palin was not going to put Alaskans through that. She should be commended and not chastised since it was the best decision for Alaska.

Sarah Palin’s vision of what is best for Alaska also translates into what is best for America.

Jerry McBeath, a veteran political science professor at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, called the pending resignation a "smart move," both for Palin and the state.

Palin felt that the pressures of the job combined with her family obligations and the demands and desires to help other Republican candidates led her to decide not to run again. Once that decision was made, she realized, why not do it now and let the lieutenant governor take over and get a head start on his election.

"I cannot stand here as your governor and allow the millions of dollars and all that time go to waste just so I can hold the title of governor," Palin said, referring to the alleged impact of multiple ethics complaints against her, most of which have been dismissed.

Palin remaining as governor is not good for Alaska, given the "political blood sport" by her critics, Stapleton said. Stepping down is a "fighter's move," Stapleton said, essentially Palin stepping around political barriers in her way and pursuing her vision.

Sarah polled the most important people in her life, her kids, where the count was unanimous, she said. "Well, in response to asking, “hey you want me to make a positive difference and fight for all our children's future from outside the governor's office?” It was four yeses and one 'Hell, yeah!" and the 'Hell, yeah' sealed it.
