The LochNess Highlands were originally settled by a branch of expatriate Ptolemii who emigrated to Osiron in the first wave of colonists. By and large the group was comprised of the descendants of the Terran region called the Scottish Highlands, and they selected the name of a large lake replete with connotations of the supernatural and mystery surrounding a mythical creature as their provincial designation. Two small metropolises were founded, Glasgow and Dundee, and a few tiny townships dotted their perimeters. The populace was for the most part homogenous and lived in harmony, with the major industry revolving around the creation of hand-woven fabrics and intricate inlaid ceramic pottery for dining and decoration.
The province itself was a respectable one hundred thousand hectares, and was the second most fertile region outside of the Tuscany valley. Aside from the variety of mountains and green hills and wide rivers, lakes, and waterfalls, the province had multiple large sections of moors, unforested and uncultivated tracts characterized by high rainfall, acidic soil, and low, scrubby vegetation. The emigrants had brought with them seedlings of Terran heather, and planted them in strategic sections where the plants would flourish and reproduce. By the time that Warrick ruled the Kindred of Chay, the LochNess heather moors sprouted fantastic flowers of brilliant pink, purple, orange, red, and yellow.
No one would ever surmise that a land so rich in peace and beauty could hide dark secrets, places where beauty was not welcome; neither was compassion, nor mercy.
