Without warning Umaro force pushed Liv into one of the guards. Liv crashed into him hard knocking them both over. Liv looked up in terror ‘Do not approach the guards’ the watchers warning repeated in her head. A deep ravenous growl came from the raven-like creature, Liv’s mouth dropped open as she stared at the giant claw rising in the air. The other guard had blocked the stairs, she had nowhere to run. The great claw knocked Liv hard into the bars of the cell. She was on the ground leaning against them. She was stunned from the blow, the warm sticky liquid dripping down her face told Liv her head was bleeding pretty severely. Her face throbbed; she was dizzy and squirming to stand but couldn’t get her footing. The guard was walking toward her, but he was thrown into the other guard sending both of them tumbling down the stairs. Before Liv could comprehend what had happened a bony hand reached around and gripped her jaw. The other hand was pressing something sharp against her neck. Umaro pressed Liv’s head against the bars with great force, Liv was flailing her legs, fighting hard to get away, but Umaro was too strong. Liv tried to reach for the daggers in her boot but she couldn’t coordinate with her head held captive. She was weakened by the guard. She did the only thing she could think of and started screaming for the watcher. Umaro slammed Liv’s head against the bars “Shut your mouth!” Liv’s head was pounding from the multiple traumas. Umaro turned Liv’s face to the side pushing her cheek into the bars, and whispered in her ear “You should have known I would get what I wanted. This could have been much easier for you if you had cooperated.” Umaro slid the piece of parchment down Liv’s shirt. Liv convulsed at the bony fingers sliding down her flesh “A deal’s a deal” Umaro said. She smeared the blood on Liv’s head with her hand remorselessly “Pity. I need an artery” her stealy eyes glowed red with excitement as she plunged a large needle resembling the size of an embalming apparatus deep into Liv’s neck and drew out the dark arterial blood

About the Author
Bethany Shehorn was born and raised in Arizona and has been writing full stories since she was nine years old. She is also an artist, beautician, veterinary technician, pinup model, and mother. Shehorn lives in a small town in northern Arizona with her husband, daughter, and three cats. She published her first children’s book in 2005 and her first novel, Lysterium, in 2011.
