About the Book
THE MILLENNIAL DEER is a collection of essays-social, cultural and political commentary, in the form of old-fashioned correspondence. Relevant to the changing conditions of the early years of the 21st Century, the author's views are presented with wit, great insight, and occasional political incorrectness and ill humor. They seek to connect a lost past with the mystique of a present that is blundering into uncharted and dangerous territory. As for the book's title, the author says, "Always at my back I hear-THE MILLENNIAL DEER. . . "
About the Author
Dayton Lummis joined the human race in New York City in 1936, and has had misgivings ever since--in spite of, or perhaps because of, his education at Yale University. Once an aspiring Beatnik (too late!) and a "failed hippie" (too early, and lacking essential qualifications), he managed to stay afloat as a director of several cultural history museums. Currently he divides his time between Santa Fe, New Mexico, and Saint David's, Pennsylvania, letting his mind wander where it will. Some say that it would be better to have it more under control. . .
