The Production Process

You have put so much of yourself into your book. That shouldn’t stop when the production process begins. At iUniverse, our publishing specialists ensure your ideas are translated into a custom-designed book. An experienced team of professionals provide advice and support while allowing you to maintain creative control over all aspects of your book. You decide what is best for the project, and we design the book around your ideas.

Taking the First Step

After receipt of all your materials, we learn about your vision for the project before we begin to work on your book. To fully understand your ideas, we will assign a Publishing Services Assistant (PSA) to you who will verify all information about your book, help you choose a book size and discuss ideas for your custom color cover. Your PSA will guide you through the production process from the initial design process through the final phase of sending your completed book to the printer.

Collaboration with Different Publishing Specialists

Your PSA will convey your vision for the book cover and interior to your designers. Your designers will take those ideas and create a professional, custom cover and interior from your materials. Once the design work is complete your PSA will provide a PDF (electronic proof) for proofing purposes.

Reviews and Revisions

After you review the interior and cover proofs from your designers, you can provide your production team with one of two forms: 1) a proof form requesting revisions or 2) a sign off form stating that you have approved the files for printing.

If revisions are requested, the changes will be assessed for possible fees and you will be notified of any additional costs before any edits are completed. Any time additional changes are made, you will receive a revised proof of your book interior or cover. This process will continue until you approve both your cover and book interior for printing.

Final Touches

When your final approval for both the cover and interior are received, the approved files will be prepared for the printer. Approximately two-three weeks after you approve your files, you will have a copy of your book in hand. As a benefit of working with iUniverse, your book will be available through many online retailers often referred to as “channels.” Each submission channel operates in a slightly different way and the timelines involved can vary significantly. It can take up to six weeks from the time a title is available at iUniverse for it to be listed on other retailers' websites.
